When was the last time you researched the brushing basics? If it has been awhile, you might be a little behind on the recommended ways to brush. Either way, brushing up on brushing techniques and returning to brushing fundamentals can help you and your smile. To help you, our dentist, Dr. Blake Lawlor, is happy to share some information and tips.
First, remember to brush your teeth twice each day for two minutes each time. This is important because a thorough and frequent brushing technique will help you thoroughly remove the harmful substances from your teeth and gumline. If you have a hard time remembering to brush, set reminders for yourself. If you have a hard time brushing for two minutes, set a timer or listen to a short song when you brush.
Second, remember to use the proper equipment when brushing, like a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. The soft bristles will clean the chompers and care for the oral tissues. The fluoride toothpaste will strengthen the enamel and prevent cavities and enamel erosion. When you have used your toothbrush for longer than 4 months, please replace it.
Third, remember to keep your toothbrush clean. You can do this by rinsing the toothbrush bristles with warm water and then storing your brush in an upright position so the bristles can air dry. Don’t put a toothbrush cover on the brush until the bristles are dry.
