Who can get a dental sealant?
Generally, children and teenagers are the best candidates for dental sealants. As soon as their permanent molars grow into their mouth, they should protect them with the sealants. We usually encourage those between the ages of 6 and 14 to come in for the treatment. However, adults can also benefit from dental sealants. If they have strong, healthy teeth that do not suffer from tooth decay and do not have dental fillings, they can protect their teeth with dental sealants.
How are dental sealants applied?
The process of applying the dental sealant is quick, easy, and painless. First, your dentist will thoroughly clean the tooth that is receiving the sealant. Then, the tooth is dried. Next, your dentist will put an acid solution onto the chewing surface of the tooth to roughen it up. This will help the sealant bond to the tooth. Your dentist will once again rinse and dry the tooth after the acid has done its job. When the tooth is ready and dry, the sealant is painted onto the tooth enamel. Then, your dentist will use a special light to harden the material.
